Senior Investigator, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner
Janet Burt-Gerrans is a Senior Investigator and Public Policy Professional at the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Nova Scotia (NS OIPC). The staff of NS OIPC support the Commissioner to resolve freedom of information matters through research, investigation, analysis and mediation. Janet is responsible for the investigation and informal resolutions of Requests for Review of decisions made by public bodies and health custodian pursuant to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Part XX of the Municipal Government Act, the Privacy Review Officer Act and the Personal Health Information Act. Her main duties include investigating privacy complaints and privacy breach reports and initiating informal dispute resolutions. Janet holds an Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at McMaster University and a Juris Doctor from Schulich School of Law. Janet also has a strong community service background in civil rights, social services and the environment.
